Character
Name: Nageki Fujishiro
Series: Hatoful Boyfriend
Timeline: At the end of his route (which means the Hurtful Boyfriend/Bad Boy's Love route isn't something that happened, for him).
Canon Resource Links: Here is Nageki's page on the Hatoful Wiki!
Personality: Nageki is a very quiet and somewhat melancholic boy. He spent the time leading up to his death in an increasing spiral of depression and self-hate due to being forced to kill humans and being separated from the one person he cared about after losing everyone else in his adopted orphanage family in a horrible and bloody manner. That seems to have imprinted on his personality as a ghost, even if for the greater part of his route he can remember very little about his past. For the majority of his route Nageki is very short with the protagonist, sometimes speaking only in ellipses, and while he isn't rude, he isn't entirely friendly, either. He simply doesn't seem to want to get close to anyone, and is content to bury himself in the library books and follow a strict routine day in and day out. In a 'short story' written by him in the game extras, he expresses discomfort and unease about the protagonist's role in his life, and how she's disrupting that order and the status quo. It's heavily implied that he's not totally cognizant of short-term time, and marks seasons by the foliage outside the library window and whether students are around or not.
Nageki cannot be seen in his route by anyone but the protagonist (in BBL, he can be seen by a few others, but this isn't demonstrated in his personal route), and that this is very unusual. Him being noticed and spoken to is not something that happens to him often and it throws him very off-kilter, though he grows more used to it the more the protagonist approaches him. The more she spends time with him the more he displays emotions other than lack of emotions or vague irritation. In other sources such as the drama CDs, it's shown that he sometimes 'interacts' with other students whether they can see him or not, such as becoming irritated and throwing books at a certain student who is being rude -- though this is during an interaction that also involves people who can see him, which tends to bring out his emotions more in the first place.
Nageki is something of a literary snob, though he's not overtly obnoxious about it. He talks to the protagonist about books at one point and displays a predilection toward more advanced or academic texts. Given how long he had to spend in the library doing nothing but reading, its no wonder that he considers himself an expert on 'good' literature.
His mood becomes far better the closer he grows to the protagonist over the course of his route. Being treated like a normal student, something he couldn't have as a ghost or as a secret military test subject, and being around a human who doesn't immediately die from contact with him, fulfills him in a way. He's shown through his deep friendship with Hitori to be a person who needs the emotional support of at least one other person to be truly happy and feel truly safe, and the protagonist provides that in a more romantic way. He feels happier and loved in a way that he hasn't been for a very, very long time, and that enables him to move on and stop haunting the physical world. I'll be taking him from this point, so his personality will be in general more open and less bleak (being alive will also help). He's still a quiet boy who'd rather curl up with a good book than go to a party, though.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Nageki doesn't posses many physical strengths, though he's always been small and susceptible to illness. His body also is host to the human-killing Charon virus in canon, but in Route that will be removed (which is sensible, since his ghost self wouldn't have had it and I'm taking him post-death). His mental strength is formidable, though. He's quite a reader and writer, and given that he had years after his death to perfect those skills, they're only better than they were when he died.

[The video clicks on, showing a teenager with green hair and large pale orange eyes. His expression is carefully neutral, but it's clear he's a little uncertain, and it takes him several seconds to start speaking. His voice is very quiet.]
Ah... are there any libraries here?
[Someone from off-camera, a very boisterous female voice, tells him 'Speak up, it's a good question!' The corner of his mouth twitches slightly.]
Apologies. Are there any libraries in this region? This Pokédex doesn't have much information past the basics. I would like more, if it's available and anybirdie is willing to share.
[He stares at the camera for several more seconds, then purses his lips.]
Anybody.
Thank you.

It had taken some getting used to for Nageki, being alive, never mind being alive as a human. To be able to feel the wind on his face, the change in temperature when day turned to night, and the grass under his toes was all uniquely wonderful to him. Eating had been almost too much for him, the first few times, and even though his living body had protested he'd eased himself into it slowly. He'd been waiting years, after all, and knew the value of patience.
He lay on the less dangerous short grass and stared up at the sky. It was morning and the sunlight was still slanted enough that it only really warmed half of his face. He delighted in the contrast in temperature of his left cheek to his right and the feeling of blades of grass tickling his skin (bare skin, not feathers! It was still so strange). Turning his face to the right he could see the hooves of his Deerling, Millet, and its snout as it happily grazed.
It had been a new experience for him, taking care of something smaller and more vulnerable than he was, and while he knew Millet was growing stronger with each battle he couldn't help but feel like being responsible for it was still a monumental task. He wanted so desperately to do well. The first time it had been KO'd in battle had shaken him badly, and having to take it to a doctor afterward had been even worse. A doctor was the last sort of person he ever wanted to be near someone he was trying to keep safe. He flinched slightly, remembering how much of a fuss he'd made about it until Hiyoko had had to cover his eyes to calm him down. Hopefully he'd make a better impression in the next town. He still had a day or so of travel on this route first, and a half hour or so of soaking in the warmth of the sun before he wanted to get started.
